There’s a growing concern about eating healthy food nowadays. This concern is brought about by the increasing number of health issues caused by not eating the right food. People just seem to forget that they need nutrients for their body. Well, the society is partly to be blame. Foods that are available in the market are not healthy anymore. We live now in the world of packed foods that do not care for nutrition. Proper care should be observed when choosing what food to buy and consume.

There are many so called health advocates who encourage people to eat healthy food. They knew that people are exposed to an unhealthy environment and they feel that it’s their duty to become watchmen of people’s health. We admire them for their watchfulness but can they really cope up with the ever increasing problem of improper nutrition.

People do not really agree on which food is healthy and which ones are not. Some people think that they eat healthy food but others who eat the same food will say that what they are eating is not healthy at all. There is a little bit of confusion because there are many standards to follow. Some standards focus on calorie. Other standards would go to the length of naming all the food in the world and tag each as healthy or unhealthy based on various criteria.

Protein, fats, and carbohydrates are the most common gauge of nutrition. Consider these substances found in food if you want to eat healthy food. One could easily measure them because most packed foods have nutrition facts about them in the label. The relative amount of carbohydrates, fats and proteins in food determines how healthy a food is. Protein is considered good, carbohydrates neutral and fats bad. But that’s not really the case according to some experts. Some would argue that not all fats are bad and some carbohydrates are not really that good.

Protein in itself is good. No argue about that. But the food that contains protein has other substances in it including fats. Red meats, considered by Americans as healthy because of its protein contents contain a lot of unhealthy fats. Carbohydrates are also considered good if taken in the right amount. But there is also a distinction between good and bad carbohydrates. The same is true with fats. Omega-3, a fatty substance found in fishes is said to be good for the heart. Beware of saturated fats, though. They kill.

A healthy life style and good eating habits are essential to good life. It’s okay to be choosy when it comes to food consumption. A good choice of food determines a healthy living. You don’t have to starve yourself to be healthy. A balance diet is al that you need. Mind your nutrition when you go to the supermarket. You’ll have a better life if you eat healthy food. That’s a fact. It’s never too late to start a healthy lifestyle. You have the power to choose.
